Overview

Ten-month Project Intern at the Indian Institute of Science (Saini Lab & Mathematical Oncology Lab): Mitochondrial Control of State Transitions — Convergent Mechanisms in EMT and Senescence.

Computational

  • Automated R pipelines for bulk and single-cell RNA-seq across 15 GEO datasets — cut preprocessing time by ~60%
  • Meta-analysis integrating TCGA, NCI-60, and GEO to find conserved signatures tying mitochondrial stress to senescence
  • ODE-based signaling network models in Python to predict dynamic responses to radiation in lung adenocarcinoma contexts

Experimental validation

  • Mammalian cell culture (A549, BEAS-2B)
  • Flow cytometry and immunofluorescence to confirm in-silico predictions
  • Protein quantification (Bradford, BCA), Western blot, SDS-PAGE

Takeaway

A full translational arc: from messy multi-cohort omics → quantitative models → bench validation — the kind of workflow I want to keep doing at the engineering–biology interface.
